Ball Handling-Group 3

Single Arm Pendulum Dribble
-Dribble the ball from one side of your body to the other with the same hand.
-Cup your hand and the far side of the ball to push back in the other direction.
-Do this with both hands.

Single Arm Pendulum Dribble; Side
-Use the same pendulum movement but now keep the ball on the same side of your body and go back to front.
-Do this with both hands.

Crossover Dribble
-You want to swing the ball from side to side.
-The path of the ball should make a "V" in front of you.
-Have your hands pointing toward the ground at 45-degree angle so the ball will travel to the ground in that angle.
-Swing both arms. There should not be a long time between the ball hitting the ground and touching the receiving hand.

Kill Dribble
-Dribble as low as you can. Keep the dribble fast. This will help you in traffic in game situations.

Between the Legs Dribble
-It is okay when you first start to raise the leg to get the ball through, but you should stop doing that as soon as you are capable. -Raising your leg to dribble between your legs is unathletic move that shouldn't be used in a game.

-You cannot dribble between your legs while standing in an unathletic position.
-Have your feet wide and drop your hips.
-Your feet should not be even. If you are dribbling to your right, then your right foot should be in front of your left. If you are dribbling to your left your left foot should be forward.

-The hands should be close together when the ball hits the ground.
-Think of every between the legs dribble as getting your hands as close to clapping as you can.

-Your hands should be low and close to each other on the catch and release.

-Drive the ball through your legs. Do not drop the ball.

Behind-the Back Dribble
-Keep your back flat when dribbling behind your back.
-Think of it as the same thing as a crossover dribble but behind your back.

-Do not move your hips forward to make more room behind your back.
-This unathletic move is the equivalent to raising your leg off the ground to dribble between your legs.

-Stay in a good athletic position.

-Similar to dribbling between your legs, get as close to a clap on the dribble as possible.
-Keep the hands low to the ground.

Retreat-Crossover Dribble
-The retreat dribble is a dribble away from the player guarding you. You are essentially backing up.
-Do not stop squared up to the defender.
-Stop in the Quarter Turn position with one foot in front of the other.
-Do not simply take a series of steps backward, but instead push off hard on your front foot and reach back with your back foot and create as much space as you can between yourself and the player guarding you.
-Once you've created the space. Square back up and use a crossover dribble to go in the other direction.

Hesitation Dribble
-Another way to lose a defender beside changing direction is to change speed.
-Using the hesitation dribble means you slow down or stop your momentum entirley.
-One the defender also slows down then you speed up again and blow by the defender.
-One helpful tip is to raise your eye level. Do not look at where you are going to dribble once you speed up again. Look up and make it seem as though you are considering passing or shooting.
