Cutting-Group 1

Basics of Cutting
-Cutting in basketball is an explosive, purposeful movement off the ball used to deceive defenders, create space, and get open for a scoring opportunity.
-Do not just jog through the motions. Set up your defender by walking or taking two hard steps in one direction before exploding into your actual cut.
-Keep your hips and shoulders lower than your defender's to win the leverage battle and seal your path.
-Use your forearm or shoulder to brush past or pin your defender's inside hip/shoulder, forcing them to turn and chase.
-Show your hands clearly. Hold your hands high if you want a direct pass, or low if you need a bounce pass away from the defender.
