Trapping the Post
-Trapping the post is when you send a second player to double team the post player when the catch the ball.
-Depending on the tendency of the post player the trapping player can come from the high side or the baseline side, which ever side they usually drive or turn to.
The Wing Trap
-The wing trap is used when the passer feeding the post is a very poor shooter. The player defending the passer turns around and the trap comes from the front of the player.
Digging
-Digging is another technique for the defender of the player who fed the post.
-Instead of trapping the wing defender takes two steps closer to the post player and tries to reach for the ball with one hand instead of a full out trap.
Double Switch
-The double switch is used when the offense's center sets a pick and a small defender switches to guard the much bigger player.
-If this happens the big offensive player will immediately go to the block and post up the much smaller defender.
-The double switch occurs when a third defender gets involved. If the third defender recognizes the mismatch and is bigger than their small teammate, they will switch and take the player in the post.
-The more advanced teams recognize this early so the switch occurs before the large post player can get their post position.
