Change of Direction
-Changing their direction and speed is the best way for an offensive player to get a defender off balance and create space both when the offensive player has the ball and when they do not.
-Push off the foot opposite of the desired direction.
-Turn your shoulders toward desired direction.
-Change speed when changing direction.

Change of Speed
-Showing effort to go fast is important, but moving the same speed on offense is not deceptive.
-Change speed to catch your defender off balance.
-Changing speeds on defense is not a strategy. You should strive to one step faster than the person you are guarding.
