Drop Step
- Keep a low center of gravity and use a reverse pivot to drop your target-side foot (baseline or middle) behind the defender. Drive your shoulder directly into the center of the defender's chest to seal them.
- Take a strong, low power dribble simultaneously with your step, protect the ball with your body, and jump straight up vertically toward the rim.
Jump Hook
- Take a hard, long step into the lane with your topside or inside foot, pointing it toward the sideline while taking a strong power dribble.
-Bring your trailing foot around to position your body perpendicular to the basket.
-Your shoulder and non-shooting arm act as a shield, keeping the defender at bay so they cannot contest the shot without fouling.
-Elevate straight up and down off two feet; do not fade away.
-Bring the ball up with both hands as long as possible, then release it at the peak of your jump with an extended arm and a soft wrist flick over your outside shoulder.
Quick Spin
-Recognize when the defender is pushing their weight against you or overplaying one side.
-Catch the pass with a wide, strong stance, protecting the ball with your offhand and elbow.
-Use your top baseline or inside foot as a forward pivot foot, and rapidly spin away from the defensive pressure toward the open lane or baseline.
-Take a quick, powerful dribble out of the turn and finish strong at the basket before the defense can recover.
