Tipping the Basketball
-Bend your knees and maintain a strong, balanced base to prepare for an explosive jump.
-Keep your eyes locked on the ball's trajectory as it comes off the rim or backboard.
-Explode upward and use just the pads of your fingers—not your palms—to flick or tap the ball.
-Aim to tap the ball cleanly toward the top of the key or the perimeter where your guards are stationed, away from taller defenders.
Time the Jump
-Watch the flight of the ball off the rim. Do not jump while the ball is still hitting the iron.
-Time your explosion so your hands meet the ball at the highest point of your vertical jump.
-Flex your knees and keep your hips low in a strong, wide base to load your legs for an explosive second jump.
-Reach with both hands (or lead with one hand slightly higher, then bring the second hand up instantly) to secure the ball firmly.
-Pull the rebound tight to your chest or chin with elbows out immediately upon grabbing it in the air.
