Shooting-Group 2

Proper Shooting Form
Hand Placement
-The shooting hand should be in the center of the ball, not on the side.

The Guide Hand
-The guide hand should be on the side of the ball, not in the front or on top.
-The guide hand keeps the ball in place. It is not involved in the shot; it comes off the ball before the release.

Shooting Pocket
-The ball should be held just above the waist.
-You want the forearm parallel to the floor.

Loaded Wrist
-Having a loaded wrist means the wrist is bent.
-Put a wrinkle in wrist.
-The wrist should be loaded while the ball is in shooting pocket and not later.

Set Point
-The set point is where the ball stops moving upward from the shooting pocket and begins to be shot.
-Most players position the ball around their forehead, slightly above and in front of the shooting shoulder.
-Bring the ball straight up in a fluid motion from the shooting pocket without dipping it behind your head, which causes a slow, slinging release.

The Elbow
-The elbow stays in and under the ball which keeps the hand pointed at the target.
-The picture below demonstrates what not to do.
-Look at the shooting hand placement.  This shot is going to go to the side not straight.

Release Point
-The Release is above the head.
-The elbow should finish higher than the eyes. If not, the shot will be a line drive.

Split Finger Release
-The thumb, ring finger, & pinky are the rails keeping the ball in place for 2 finger release
-Those three fingers are not involved in the shot, or you will get a curveball.
-The guide hand should not be involved in the shot either.

Elevation
-Get off the floor.
-Balance is key to good elevation.
-Jump straight up, not forward.
-You don't have to get as high as the picture shown.

Follow Through
-Finish with a snap of the wrist and create the goose neck.
-If you do not finish a snap of the wrist then you are not shooting the ball you are throwing the ball like a shot put. There is a difference.
-Shoot the ball, do not throw the ball.
