Shooting-Group 5

The Tilt
-Instead of facing the rim completely square with ten toes pointing directly at the basket, your body angles slightly.
-For right-handed players, the right shoulder comes forward slightly, similar to how you stand when throwing a dart.
-The ball starts more in the middle (midline) of your body rather than on your hip, allowing a smooth, straight-line release off your dominant side.

Why Use the Tilt
-It takes the physical strain and tension out of your shooting shoulder that can happen when forcing your body to stay completely straight.
-Your shooting arm, elbow, wrist, and hip line up naturally with the basket as you uncoil and shoot.
-Many elite shooters use a slight turn to generate an easier, more repeatable, and fluid motion from deep range.

How to Practice the Tilt
-Set your feet hip-width apart with a slight stagger, pointing slightly to the right (about 11 o'clock for right-handers).
-Receive or pick up the ball in the center of your body rather than wrapping it around your hip.
-Uncoil your legs and push the ball straight up from your shot pocket, letting your aligned shoulder guide a clean follow-through.
